Dirty Computer and Relation to My Manifesto

Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer celebrates individuality and freedom to exist without apology in themes that connect to my similar beliefs about digital media. In Dirty Computer, technology is both the enemy and ally. The emotion picture shows how digital identity can be used to define or hide us. Like the “dirty computers” in Monáe’s story, we express the parts of ourselves that society often tries to erase or judge. Digital spaces give us room to be unapologetically ourselves, just as Monáe expresses herself through many scenes.
